Chief Justice William Rehnquist was hospitalized over the weekend for treatment of thyroid cancer. We've known for some time that following this election, there could be 2 or 3 retirements among the supremes. Some are specifically waiting in the hope that Kerry wins and can appoint the successor.
This election is "supremely" important (sorry about that). Our only hope for keeping some degree of sanity on the court is to keep Bush in power to make the appointments, and get rid of Daschle so we can get them approved by the Senate.
