The International Committee of the Red Cross has leaked a report condemning the U.S. treatment of detainees at Guantanamo Bay as "tantamount to torture". What nonsense.
The folks we're currently housing at Gitmo we captured while trying to kill American and coalition soldiers, and were not part of a national military force at the time they were doing that. In the good old days these folks would be considered spies and would have been summarily shot (that's the way they treated non-uniformed combatants up through World War II). The fact is, the Red Cross should be happy that these guys are still breathing.
The U.S. provides something like $100 million tax dollars to help fund this organization, and apparently is has morphed into another anti-American international organization much as has the U.N. Perhaps it's time to rethink those contributions.
Read today's National Review Online editorial for more info on this situation.
