Some Thoughts on Bias

Everybody is biased to one degree or another. There is no such thing as a truly non-partisan. I'm a conservative Christian, and when I look at the news, I filter it through that bias. The same is true for the left and the media (yes, I think they're one in the same), and no matter how hard they want us all to believe they are without prejudice or bias, it's just plain against human nature to believe that they operate free of their own filters.

For instance, when conservatives looked at the Grab Abu prison mess, we saw prisoner abuse conducted by a handful of idiots who got completely out of control. When liberals saw the same pictures, they saw torture performed by an evil U.S. Military who conducts that sort of thing on a regular basis. Bias.

That's why when many of us conservatives heard about the Koran-flushing incident, we had serious questions about the validity of the report right from the start. After Grab Abu, why would any military interrogator risk the outrage that would surely come from such an event? Surely the military learned something important from Grab Abu and would be careful not to unnecessarily inflame the passions of the Muslim world.

The left, and their allies in the media, heard the same report and immediately knew it to be true, because after all, in their eyes that's how our military works. The story became too good to fact check, and because it was so easily believed by the media, they ran with it. That and the fact that it would make Bush look bad was all they needed.

I hope Newsweak and other media outlets will learn something from this. After Rathergate and now KoranFlushingGate, maybe the media will begin to question some of these reports before they air them.

I know - wishful thinking, but who knows, the age of miracles has not yet passed.
