U.S. Nukes Bad, Says Kofi

UN Chief Kofi Annan decided to tell the U.S. and Russia how to defend themselves during a conference which was reviewing the workings of the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty.
"Ultimately, the only way to guarantee that they will never be used is for our world to be free of such weapons,'' Annan said, and he then urged the United States and Russia to slash their nuclear arsenals irreversibly to just hundreds of warheads.

This from a guy who comes from a country whose top line strategic weapons are rocks and sticks. Somehow I don't think Kofi really understands the deterrent nature of our nuclear weapons programs. Given the emphasis on nukes by Iran and North Korea (and for that matter, the former regime in Iraq), I don't think this is a great time to be cutting our defensive or offensive abilities.

Kofi also clearly does not understand that the U.S. is not the source of evil in the world, and whether we have one or thousands of warheads, we do not pose a threat to the free peoples of the world. It's the same old UN song - if there's trouble in the world, it's America's fault.
