There's going to be an open seat in the California congressional delegation. Rep. Chris Cox of Orange County will soon be nominated to head up the Securities and Exchange Commission. Cox (bio) has represented Orange County for 9 terms and has a very safe Republican seat. I'm sure that factored in the President's decision to nominate him for the post.
If you are a fan of The West Wing, you might remember that the liberal character played by Rob Lowe left the White House and came back to Newport Beach and ended up winning the congressional election. If there was ever a sign that The West Wing was fiction, that was it.
Hugh Hewitt is hoping that State Senator John Campbell will run, and I could support that as well (though I won't get to vote since I'm not in that district). With or without Campbell, the Republicans will hold that seat.
