Judicial Philosophy Only Matters if the President is a Republican

Can you name the Senator who had this to say about a Supreme Court confirmation hearing (h/t Bench Memos):
[I]t is our responsibility as members of the [Judiciary] Committee … in advising and consenting, that we are challenged to ascertain the qualifications and the training and the experience and the judgment of a nominee, and that it is not our responsibility to test out the nominee's particular philosophy, whether we agree or disagree.
That, my friends, was spoken by none other than Teddy *hiccup* Kennedy back in 1967 during the confirmation of Thurgood Marshall. Of course, he's now demanding that Judge Roberts answer each and every question that he and the other Dems can come up, including those that may prejudice future cases and create a violation of the canon of judicial ethics. We've documented The Swimmer's hypocrisy on judicial matters before.

Now I realize that this statement was almost 40 years ago and a lot of alchohol has passed through Sen. Kennedy's gray matter, but you think just once he'd be able to remember what he once stood for and show a little consistency.
