Mission Viejo Ranked #1 In Pre-Season Poll

Sorry, but I have to brag a little about my kid's high school:

The top-ranked team in the preseason National Prep Poll hails from California for the sixth consecutive year. But this time it's not De La Salle (Concord); it's So-Cal power Mission Viejo.

The top-ranked Diablos bring a four-year record of 55-1 with three Southern Section Division II titles into the '05 season. Coach Bob Johnson's club will be led by a powerful group of offensive weapons that include blue chippers TE Konrad Reuland (6-5, 240) and RB Chane Moline (6-2, 240). In his first year as a starter, senior R.J. Toman (6-0, 185) will be asked to fill the shoes of departed Parade All-American Mark Sanchez (USC).

On defense, Mission Viejo returns six starters from a group that allowed opponents an average of 11 points per game. The unit is led by returning All-CIF DBs Garrett Rubio (5-10, 180) and Chris Holmesly (5-10, 175).

Last year the Diablos won the CIF Title, and were ranked #1 in California and #2 in the country. We're hoping for good things again in 2005.
