I occasionally look at the WorldNetDaily website for news that may be of interest to my readers, but that stops as of today. Those folks have clearly gone 'round the bend. Their site has always been on the far right of the religious far right, and from time to time they could be valuable. Now they're just crazy.
Today Joseph Farah, the head honcho at WND, is calling for President Bush's impeachment over the issue of immigration. That, folks, is just nonsense. Apparently Farah and Pat Buchanan have had some sort of moronic convergence.
And just look at the timing of this announcement. As I write this I'm watching scenes of devastation in the Gulf Coast, refugees, looting, and a health crisis of unimaginable proportions for the United States. Farah's nonsensical pronouncement is exactly what the country doesn't need right now as we struggle to help the people down south.
And just how thoroughly has Farah thought this out? Not at all. What happens if he succeeds in his efforts and Bush is impeached? Cheney takes over, and there's no sign that his policies are any different. Of course, after a successful impeachment the White House will be the Dems for the asking in 2008, and if you think their immigration policies will be tougher than the president's, you're just ignorant. This is clearly a publicity stunt on Farah's part, and one that I predict he'll regret.
Do we have a problem in the area of illegal immigration - absolutely. But do you throw the president out because he hasn't fixed your pet problem? Let's face it, he's been a little bit busy with that small project called the War on Terror.
Yes, immigration controls are part of that war, but calls for impeachment are clearly a sign of a good mind gone bad. Why would I take anything else at WND seriously after that.
From now on I'll stick to websites that have not gone completely insane.
