What's Next, Frogs and Locusts?

The conditions in the earthquake area in Asia are bad enough without this:
Heavy rain and hailstorms in northern Pakistan further hampered efforts on Tuesday, grounding rescue flights and a planned aerial tour of stricken areas by the prime minister.

Officials in the worst-hit areas of Pakistani Kashmir and the North West Frontier Province said may have claimed up to 40,000 lives. Another 2,000 people are feared to have been killed across the border in Indian Kashmir.
What's kind of amazing to me is there are already complaints coming out of the area that the Western response is too slow and too small. After everything the U.S. did following the tsunami, and then our own problems with Katrina and Rita, I'm surprised we have anything left to send to Pakistan. I realize there are real troubles over there right now, but c'mon, how many different ways do you think our resources can be stretched - especially if you want a quick response.

The U.S. will respond, of course, and in fact already has begun to help, but I think there's becoming an expectation that as soon as the ground stops shaking our people will be on the scene with everything they need, and if we're not there, the complaining starts. Maybe we should call that the "Nagin" syndrome.

It's going to be a mess for a long time over there.
