I'm rerunning this item since the show featuring my father-in-law will be rerun on December 1. I saw it last night and it's very well done. Here's the info:
Here's a little TV heads-up. My father-in-law, Roy Jennings, will be featured in a History Channel presentation called "Shootout!" which will air on December 1st. Check your local listings and make sure you see the episode called WWII: Storming France. The History Channel website shows it airing at 3pm on Thursday, but if you're on a satellite system, it may be on at a different time.
Roy was a combat scout in WWII and he and some of his buddies were interviewed for this show a few weeks ago in L.A. He has two purple hearts, a bronze and a silver star to show for his efforts. At one point in the campaign he was shot in the head and that incident is recounted on the show. He returned to combat duty three weeks later.
It wasn't a German bullet, but trenchfoot that finally took him out of the war. His feet had been frozen so badly he was no longer able to fight, and spent several weeks in a Paris hospital with his feet hanging out the windows (they did that to keep them cold - it was actually preferable to completely warming them up). He used to look out between his feet right at the Eiffel Tower. You'd probably pay a lot of money to stay in a room like that today.
Don't miss it.
