I predicted it yesterday - the media is starting to second guess the air marshal who shot the guy yesterday in Miami. AOL's headling this morning: Did the Marshal Have to Kill?. Along with their story is a picture of the guy and his wife taken at some fancy event in which, of course, he looks perfectly normal. How could the marshal's shoot this guy?
Easy. Start yelling that you have a bomb and then reach into your backpack. That's often a sign that a bomber is trying to set off his bomb. If the marshal reacts as he's been trained, you'll get shot too, as you should.
And for the benefit of the press, law enforcement personnel are not trained to shoot guns or bomb out of people's hands. They're trained to shoot to kill, because that's the only way to guarantee that the threat will end. It's also the best way to avoid shooting innocent bystanders who might be hit by a shot aimed at an arm or leg. You always shoot at the center of mass, and that's where the important stuff is.
The marshal's did their job, and for that we should be grateful. Advice to bipolar people - take your meds.
