Your roving reporter went on the road tonight for a remote report. Near our home is the intersection of Chrisanta and La Paz Road, the site of the annual holiday displays. One one corner you have a very large pine tree that is all lit up with presents underneath. I guess that satisfies the pagan Christmas.
On corner #2 is this:
That's the lovely HolyCoast spokesmodel Emily helping out. This Santa's Workshop display satisfies the secular Christmas crowd.
Across the street we have this:
Our Jewish friends scored an entire corner this year, which is a little unusual when you cross the street and see this:
We have, from left to right, the display from the local Muslim community, the nativity scene from a Christian church, and a display from the Baha'i faith. That's an ecumenical group of displays all crammed into one corner of the intersection.
We're glad to have it, though. A few years ago the city council got cold feet about religious displays and banned them all. The creche scene ended up being displayed down the street in a pastor's front yard. Wiser heads prevailed before the next Christmas and all religious groups in the city were allowed to apply for space.
I guess if we try hard enough, we can all get along.
