He also appears to have undergone a significant change of heart, or perhaps it's just senility setting in. The photo below was taken during the signing ceremony for the Patriot Act when it was first enacted on October 26, 2001, and you'll notice that Sen. Reid, standing directly above President Bush, looks pretty happy with the whole thing (h/t Drudge).
Why? Reid probably thought it was politically advantageous at that time to support the legislation, but now that the wacky left has seized control of his party, he doesn't dare support the Act which may well have helped prevent a repeat of the 9/11 attacks.
As one Republican strategist put it:
“Democrats think they can regain the majority? Not a chance if they continue to put politics above what’s best for the country. Harry Reid is making a colossal miscalculation, but it's not the first time and thankfully for us, probably not the last.”
