All 10 Republicans on the Senate Judiciary Committee have expressed their support for Judge Sam Alito, so regardless of the blustering and bloviating of the 8 Dems, Alito will go to the floor. It just caught a quick bit of the Senator's statements. Sen. Hatch gave a forceful statement which very aptly outlined the absurdity of the Dem opposition to Alito, and reminded them yet again of the nomination of Ruth Bader Ginsberg, a liberal activist, who passed the Senate 97-3.
I also heard a quick bite from Sen. Teddy *hiccup* Kennedy who gave the same old song and dance about how Alito isn't for the "little guy". Take another drink, Teddy.
The final committee vote should take place a little later this morning, and the floor debate will start very quickly. The Dems have threatened a talk-a-thon to delay the final vote as long as possible, but Sen. Frist has already said he will keep the Senate in session late into the night if necessary to keep the vote on schedule. If all goes according to plan, Alito will become the newest Associate Justice before Bush delivers the State of the Union speech next Tuesday night.
