Mickey Gets His Revenge

As we were going through security in Corpus Christi yesterday, the TSA agent was laughing about this story:

A mouse got its revenge against a homeowner who tried to dispose of it in a pile of burning leaves. The blazing creature ran back to the man's house and set it on fire.

Luciano Mares, 81, of Ft. Sumner said he caught the mouse in his house..

"I had some leaves burning outside, so I threw it in the fire," Mares said from a motel room Saturday.

Village Fire Chief Juan Chavez said the burning mouse ran to just beneath a window, and the flames spread up from there.

No one was hurt inside, but the home and everything in it was destroyed.

In this case, I think the punishment fit the crime.

UPDATE: According to Rush Limbaugh at 10:43 am (PST) 1/10/06, this story has now been debunked by the 81 year old guy. He says the mouse was dead when he threw it on the fire and the fire was probably spread by high winds. Looks like it's just an urban legend now (or else the guy is trying to avoid animal cruelty charges).

UPDATE 2: According to this story, it may have happened as originally reported. Who knows?
