JACK CAFFERTY: Well, I obviously didn't see it because it hasn't been released in its entirety yet. But I would guess it didn't exactly represent a profile in courage for the Vice President to wander over there to the "f-word" network for a sit down with Brit Hume. I mean that's a little like Bonnie interviewing Clyde, ain't it? I mean, where was the news conference? Where was the access to all of the members of the media? I don't know, whatever. You just have to love the pettiness of the mainstream press as they continue to make themselves irrelevant. I watched the entire interview and thought Brit did a good job. He covered all the areas of concern regarding the incident, and I can't image what other information would be gleaned from a free-for-all press conference with the almighty press corps. In some ways it would be fun to watch, because Cheney would eat their lunch, but it's not going to happen.
Wolf: Do you still think he needs to do a full scale news conference, invite all the cameras, all the reporters and ask whatever they want?
Cafferty: That's never going to happen. But I mean running over there to the Fox Network to do it, i mean talk about seeking a safe haven. He's not going to get any high hard ones from anybody at thenetwork ntework, I think we know that."
Even some dem politicians got into the Fox-bash. Look at this comment from the
"Now that he feels forced to talk, he wants to restrict the discussion to a friendly news outlet, guaranteeing no hard questions from the press corps," Sen. Frank Lautenberg, D-N.J., said in a statement. There's no doubt that Cheney felt forced to talk, but you can't watch that interview and say he didn't get any hard questions. Just because Brit didn't yell at him or have a preschoolers David Gregory-style tantrum doesn't mean he wasn't getting all the information from the Veep.
One interesting thing unrelated to the shooting accident came out of the interview. Cheney stated that he has the power to declassify information, which means any information he released to Scooter Libby regarding Valerie Plame might have been perfectly legal. This could create some real problems for the special prosecutor.
