Katie Couric is set to announce her departure from "Today" on the program itself at 7:30 a.m. EDT Wednesday, multiple sources said Tuesday.
Couric will tell viewers that she will be leaving the show by May 31, when her contract runs out on NBC, sources said.
That will set the stage for Couric to sign a deal worth at least $13 million a year to anchor the "CBS Evening News" and take a spot on "60 Minutes." The announcement from CBS could come as soon as Wednesday afternoon.
The perky one will have to tone it down a bit for the CBS Evening News demographic. Even current fill-in anchor Bob Schieffer admits that some of the audience for the CBS Evening News consists of people who died during the night and left their TV's on.
Adding her to 60 Minutes will immediately lower the average age of the correspondents by half, and as the rookie, she'll be responsible for trimming Andy Rooney's eyebrows. It's one of those hazing things that they all had to go through.
UPDATE: Media Research Center has lots of information on Couric's liberal leanings.
UPDATE 2: They'll poll just about anything these days - Viewers Oppose Couric's Move.
