Hating the Military in Santa Cruz

Military recruiters, on the campus of the University of California at Santa Cruz, were forced to leave by idiot protesters:
Military recruiters packed up their displays and left a UC Santa Cruz job fair Tuesday after several protesters attempted to force themselves inside the fair while others blocked the entrance over the course of a tense hour-long standoff.

Citing safety concerns, the four recruiters from the Army and National Guard reversed an earlier decision to remain at the fair in a room separated from other job recruiters and protected by more than a dozen campus police.

I have a couple of reactions to this. Number one, I doubt if many of the students at that far lefty school would measure up to the standards of the U.S. Military, so there's no real loss to the country by any failure to recruit them. Secondly, the Solomon amendment allows for the cutting of Federal funding to any school which denies access to their campus to military recruiters. Though the school may not have kicked them out, the school certainly doesn't have control of its own campus, and unless they act accordingly, could be considered to be partners with the protesters. Last year the school received $80 million in federal funds.

Perhaps it's time to take another look at their funding.
