I haven't priced a plane trip for awhile, and the other day I started looking into a Vegas getaway for my bride and I this fall (while the kids are away on a band trip). We did the same trip at about the same time last fall, and now, let's compare. Last year we flew round trip from Orange County to Las Vegas on America West Airlines. The total fare for the both of us was about $400.
I looked at the exact same flights on the same airline for this new trip in November. The fare for the two of us: $1,162, an astonishing 290% increase! Now without question, jet fuel costs have jumped, but this is crazy. Are people going to pay those kinds of prices on what are supposed to be discount airlines?
Not me. We'll be driving.
