In the past few weeks California TV viewers have been treated to an onslaught of ads from the two Dem candidates for governor. Phil Angelides and Steve Westly started out with a bunch of feel good ads as they tried to out-green each other and show us all how they love California and want to give each of us a kiss on the forehead. We've actually heard more from Angelides' three daughters than we have from the candidate (he's kind of a dorky looking guy), and I commented previously on how Westly has tried to hit every lefty button - all in one ad.
Now the gloves are coming off and the mud is starting to fly. Westly is now running ads which show the $10 billion in tax hikes that Angelides has called for (he's a good old fashioned tax and spend liberal endorsed by Barbara Boxer), and Angelides somewhat lame response is an add with shaky home video showing Westly promising not to run negative ads. Does anyone believe any politician who promises not to run negative ads?
The nice thing is, whoever wins has already been damaged by the negative campaigning, which will leave less work for Arnold and the GOP in November.
