Go See CARS

If you're any kind of a NASCAR fan, go see the new Pixar movie Cars. I just saw it last night, and it was done very well. There are lots of things that NASCAR fans will recognize in the movie, though I think anybody will enjoy it, even if you know nothing about motorsports.

For NASCAR fans, there are a great many details that racing fans will recognize, even down to the "marbles" on the track. The speed shots are very realistic, and the camera angles are reminiscent of actual race footage. The opening scenes take place on a track that was obviously modeled after Bristol, and the big race at the end, though supposedly in Los Angeles, is on a track similar to Richmond. The producers obviously did their homework when it came to stock car racing.

The level of detail in this movie is spectacular. The world the animators created is very realistic, and I think it's the best thing that Pixar has done to date. Lots of humor as well as heartfelt emotion (which isn't that easy to get out of an animated car), and the voice talents were excellent. I thought each part was very well cast and acted (Larry the Cable guy pretty much steals the show as Mator the Tow Truck). The tractor tipping scene is the funniest in the movie.

Go see it. I'm sure you'll have a good time, and it's got to be more entertaining than Nacho Libre.
