Zarqawi's Former Sidekick, Hopalong al-Dummy

The Atlantic has a big article on the late, great terrorist al-Zarqawi, and which includes this item about Zarqawi's first big operation:

“Despite their enthusiasm, al-Zarqawi, al-Maqdisi, and Abu Muntassir did not appear to be natural revolutionaries. Their first operation was in Zarqa, in 1993, a former Jordanian intelligence official told me, when al-Zarqawi dispatched one of their men to a local cinema with orders to blow it up because it was showing pornographic films. But the hapless would-be bomber apparently got so distracted by what was happening on the screen that he forgot about his bomb. It exploded and blew off his legs.”

Don't you hate it when that happens....

And apparently the Zarkman was not as pious as he would have you think. He apparently preferred his ladies burkha-free:

Abu Musab al-Zarqawi was accompanied by women who wore skimpy night clothing, and read magazines on current affairs and militant propaganda, an inspection of the house he was killed in showed on Saturday.

Also beside the slabs of concrete was a woman's leopard skin nightgown and other skimpy women's clothes.

I suppose the nightgown could have been his, but that would really screw up his legacy among his fans.
