Iowa is now the center of a heated debate between Wal-Mart and its outspoken critics. This is completely inane, but then again, it's Biden so it's expected. To say that the company that makes goods available at some of the lowest prices around doesn't care about middle-class people is just political pandering at its worst. As I've pointed out before, Wal-Mart plays an important role in keeping everyday good at reasonable prices for all Americans, and that's especially valuable to those people with limited incomes.
The controversy is about providing good health care and wages to Wal-Mart workers.
It's happening in Iowa because of the state's first-in-the-nation caucuses.
Democratic Sen. Joe Biden is eyeing a presidential run.
On Wednesday, Biden headlined a news conference for a movement called Wake Up Wal-Mart.
"My problem is that I don't see any indication they care about the fate of middle-class people," Biden said.
Why Wal-Mart? Biden said it's because the retailer is the biggest.
I would love, just once, at one of these anti-Wal-Mart rallies to take a poll of how many people in the crowd shopped at a Wal-Mart in the last year. I'll bet it's a good sized percentage, and you can just go ahead and call those folks what they are - hypocrites.
