How About Giuliani-Romney Instead?

Earlier I posted on the love affair some Republicans are starting to develop over a possible McCain-Lieberman ticket in '08. That prospect doesn't excite me at all.

Over at The Wide Awake Cafe, Laura Lee Donoho suggests a ticket with a lot more pizzazz - Giuliani-Romney. You can read her reasoning here (h/t Glenn). Glenn Reynolds is running an informal poll between the two tickets and so far Rudy-Mitt are stomping John-Joe.

I find a Rudy-Mitt ticket very interesting and one I could get excited about. Granted, Rudy is more of a liberal in some areas than I would like, but in a very serious time he's a serious guy and knows a thing or two leadership. His background as a federal prosecutor doesn't hurt either.

Mitt is certainly more conservative than Rudy, and I think that could go a long way to balancing the ticket for conservatives who are concerned about some of Rudy's liberal tendencies. Both guys are from the Northeast, and that doesn't always bode well in presidential elections (see also Kerry, John and Dukakis, Mike). However, Rudy would certainly put New York in play for the Republicans (and maybe even California), and Mitt could make it a bit of a race in Massachusetts. Mitt's work on the 2002 Winter Olympics also gave him some national favorable attention.

There's a long way to go until the primaries in '08, but if Rudy decides to go for it, he's going to be very tough for anyone to beat - even media darlings like John McCain.
