After a long Saturday spent cleaning out the garage (how'd we ever get so much stuff??) the HolyCoast clan went and saw the new movie Invincible, the story of a South Philly guy who made the Philadelphia Eagles after attending an open tryout. It's a pretty good movie and I'd recommend it.
It stars Mark Wahlberg in the role of Vince Papale, a 30 year old part-time bartender and substitute teacher who answered new coach Dick Vermeil's call for an open tryout and was the only one of the hundreds who showed up that was invited to training camp. Papale was going through a lot of personal crises when he made the team, and if his life was anything like the life shown in the movie, he really needed something good to happen. Papale survived the training camp cuts and actually ended up playing three seasons for the Eagles as a special teams guy.
I'm sure the movie took a few liberties here and there with the story, and frankly if you didn't know it was based on a real guy, it probably wouldn't be that believable. But Disney did a good job with the movie - it moves right along and there's nothing in it that you wouldn't want to let your kids see or hear. You don't really have to be a sports or football fan to enjoy the film.
Go see it.
