Predictable lefty Eugene Robinson has a piece in the Washington Post which could be summarized as his lament that New Orleans will never be the same. To that I say...HALLELUJAH!
New Orleans was a drug-ridden, crime plagued swamp before Katrina hit, and you probably had a better chance of getting murdered there than in Baghdad. If the storm did some much needed urban renewal, great! Now they have a chance to rebuild it with citizens who will have a stake in their city and will want to see it prosper. Most of the slackers have gone off to plague Houston and other unfortunate municipalities that took them in after the storm.
I can understand Robinson's longing for the old days, since most of us are able to sponge the bad stuff from our memories, but anyone who seriously would like to see New Orleans returned to its pre-Katrina depravity is in complete denial about what that town was really like.
