This afternoon HolyCoast reader and another quartet friend Bob Hughes sent me a story about someone from his church who had a very scary accident this morning - a truck crushed his '68 Mustang - and yet he walked away with minor bruises:
A big rig hauling hair gel flew off the Lambert Road off-ramp at the Orange (57) Freeway during rush hour this morning, flipping the truck on its side and flattening three other cars when the truck's driver failed to negotiate the turn, authorities said. This quote from a Brea police officer kind of says it all:
The crushing blow delivered by the big rig's toppling crumpled a 1968 blue Ford Mustang and touched off another small chain-reaction collision. Five people were injured, including a 20-year-old woman who had to be cut from her RAV 4 sports utility vehicle. Miraculously, authorities said, no one was killed in the spectacular wreck...
David Bourgeois, 41, of Brea was driving home from Bible study when the big rig overturned, crushing his 1968 blue Mustang. The wreck left the car's vanity plate – Blue 68 – barely visible from underneath the rig's front end. Bourgeois was taken to a hospital for undisclosed injuries.
"Whether it was where the truck was loaded or the last movements they took before the big rig came crashing over, I don't know," Brea police Sgt. Darrin Devereux said. "If you look at the driver's seat of the Mustang, half of where you should be sitting is gone. It's just gone. It's just amazing no one was killed."
Brea Police officer Terry Fallon said of the crash, "I thought when I arrived that it was at least a double fatality, but it was a complete walk away, no serious injuries. I guess you could say some guardian angels are retiring from too much stress. It was a miracle."Yes Officer Fallon, it certainly was. Mr. Bourgeois told his story to CBS News which you can watch here.
