Pilots don't do "acrobatics", which is throwing your body around (unless maybe they're trying to get into the "mile-high" club) - they do "aerobatics", which is throwing your airplane around.
Though he didn't invent Toyota's popular gas-electric auto, David Hermance served as its main proponent, testifying before Congress and educating the public about how the technology works.
Hermance's love for flying, as an acrobatic stunt pilot, also brought him joy. But the 59-year-old Huntington Beach resident died Saturday after his experimental aircraft plunged into the ocean off San Pedro. Witnesses reported seeing Hermance flying loops and dives in the sky before his small plane went down, straight into the ocean, at about 1:30 p.m.
