Hoyer Beats Murtha, and it Wasn't Even Close

Steny Hoyer dispatched Jack Murtha with ease in the voting for House Majority Leader, despite the best efforts of Speaker-to-be San Fran Nan. Someone suggested that this was a remake of the '04 Iowa caucuses in which the voters abandoned a strident anti-war candidate in favor of one that might actually be able to do the job. Another wag suggests that Murtha has been "redeployed".

In a unity press conference held after the vote, Nan practically broke into song:
"Steny came out a big winner today," Pelosi said after the elections. "It was a stunning victory for him. We've had our debates; we've had our disagreements in that room. And now, that is over, as I said to my colleagues, as we say in church, let there be peace on Earth and let it begin with us. Let the healing begin."
The election's over, Nancy, you can knock it off with the faux religious references. And now, a moment of silence for the vanquished....
