LAGUNA HILLS – A 20-year-old man was killed this morning when the Audi sedan he was driving flew off La Paz Road and into a hill near Moulton Parkway.Everytime I've posted on one of these accidents involving young drivers I've had a flood of comments regarding my "insensitivity" to the victim. I'm sorry but by my count in the last year there have been 7 fatal accidents in South County involving 8 deaths. Each vehicle was driven by someone 20 or under and 6 of them involved high speed driving or racing (including this accident last week). One accident involved a distracted driver who lost control of her car on the nearby toll road and killed two of her friends.
Ryan Mantey, 20, of Laguna Hills was speeding south on La Paz Road at about 12:20 a.m. when his car catapulted off La Paz Road and plowed into the hill, sheriff's Lt. Ted Boyne said.
Authorities said it didn't appear the man had been racing. Investigators were trying to determine whether he had been drinking or using drugs at the time of the accident.
There's a problem here, folks.
