Defeated Maryland Senate candidate Michael Steele (R) is considering "a bid for the chairmanship of the Republican National Committee," according to The Fix.Imagine a conservative, smart, black politician like Michael Steele heading up the Republican National Committee? Boy would that make some heads pop, but I think he'd be perfect. He ran a great campaign, and in most states would have won. Maryland is just too blue for a Republican to expect to do well. He really has no future in elected office in Maryland, but the RNC job could lead to something bigger and better down the road.
"Steele would not challenge current RNC Chairman Ken Mehlman, but chatter among Republican insiders is that Mehlman has made clear for months that he might not return to his current post."
