I'm sitting here in my hotel room in Long Beach watching Chris Wallace eviscerate Sen. Sam Brownback regarding his decision to support the Warner anti-war amendment. Brownback has said some really dumb things during this interview.
First, he insists that the terrorists will not be emboldened by the stupid Senate resolutions that seek to tie the hands of the president. His response: "They're already emboldened." What drivel. Undoubtedly the terrorists are feeling their oats right now, but why add to their sense of importance?
When pressed further, Brownback said these resolutions are necessary because "we're seeing the first street protests of the Iraq war". What?? In October of 2003 I traveled to Virginia to do some singing and wanted to spend some time in Washington DC but couldn't because a big anti-war rally was scheduled for that same weekend. Just like this weekend, thousands of the unwashed masses rallied against the war on that weekend in 2003. There have been streets protests on a regular basis since before the war even began. Hasn't Sen. Brownback been paying attention?
Brownback is going to have to get his act together a lot better than he has so far in this interview if he wants to have any chance in '08.
Following Brownback was an interview with Joe Lieberman. Lieberman made far more sense on Iraq than Brownback did, and at the end of the interview even stated that now that he's an independent, he would consider voting for a Republican for president. Boy, that will set the nutroots off.
Frankly, if I had to choose between Brownback and Lieberman, I'd vote for Lieberman.
