PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Kentucky Derby winner Barbaro was euthanized Monday morning, co-owner Roy Jackson said.
Barbaro shattered some bones eight months ago while running the Preakness, and had several medical setbacks ever since.
Over the weekend, the horse had to have surgery to insert steel pins in one of the shattered bones.
That's too bad. Lessor horses would have been put down right after the injury, but because of the potential value in stud fees, they tried everything they could to save Barbaro. I wonder what they spent over these 8 months?
