Yogi and Boo-Boo's Big Adventure

On this day featuring the release of the UN Global Warming report, this picture has been widely featured showing two polar bears supposedly stuck on a melting ice floe.

What the picture doesn't tell us is how far this ice floe is from land. According to the accompanying article polar bears have been known to swim as many as 100 miles through open ocean. These two guys look pretty healthy, so I'm guessing they'll be alright.

One of the scare tactics being employed in conjunction with this report is the "fact" that polar bear populations are declining due to melting ice. In fact, according to one report I read, of the 19 documented polar bear populations around the world, 17 are stable or growing and only two are declining. We're not running out of polar bears.
