Aussies Turn Out Lights, Save the World

Just like the Frenchies who dimmed the lights on the Eiffel Tower for five minutes to save the world, the Aussies have contributed to the dim view by dousing their lights:
SYDNEY, Australia — Australia's largest city plunged itself into near-darkness on Saturday night when city officials, thousands of businesses and many more residents cut the lights for energy conservation.

The normally gleaming white sails of the Sydney Opera House darkened, as did the arch of the city's iconic harbor bridge, big chunks of the downtown skyline and countless homes in the city of 4 million in a gesture of concern about global warming.

"Tonight is a call to action," said Mayor Clover Moore, whose officials shut down all non-essential lights on city-owned buildings. "We all have to act to reduce out ecological footprint. We are asking people to think about what action they can take to fight global warming." ...

"We were expecting a big difference straight away, but it was just a little bit," said Sonja Schollen, who took sons Harry and James to a park to watch the skyline. "It was quite sweet, actually, because the kids started chanting `turn them out, turn them out.' You can see now the city's a bit dimmer."

Yeah, they're a bit dimmer, alright. What I really want to know is what the crime rate did when all the lights went out? It must have been a burgler's dream.

There's not much question that the goal of the greenies is to eliminate much of what we consider to be civilization in our modern world. The ability to generate electrical current and artificially light our homes is not a blight on Mother Earth, but a great advancement in civilization. To turn that back and claim it's progress is ludicrous.

The greenies won't be happy until our evenings are spent sitting around the fire in our mud huts swatting flies with the tails of whatever we killed for dinner.
