As soon as we decide to elect the national pastor then his/her Christianity will be important. Until then, just shut up."Everyone knows he's conservative and has come out strongly for the things that the pro-family movement stands for," Dobson said of Thompson. "[But] I don't think he's a Christian; at least that's my impression," Dobson added, saying that such an impression would make it difficult for Thompson to connect with the Republican Party's conservative Christian base and win the GOP nomination.
-- Focus on the Family's James Dobson on former Sen. Fred Thompson (R-TN), according to U.S. News and World Report.
Besides, who would you rather have? The thrice married Catholic former mayor of New York, the thrice married former Speaker of the House, the twice married Senator from Arizona, or the Mormon? Or perhaps some unnamed conservative with spotless Christian credentials who can't possibly be elected? If religious virtuosity is going to be a requirement for office, well, good luck with that.
