Planet Earth

Last night the whole family watched the first 90 minutes of "Planet Earth", a new series on The Discovery Channel which is described as a "portrait of the earth". It's an amazing show with wildlife and nature scenes that are simply unbelievable. I don't have an HD TV, but it looks wonderful on my plasma set. If you have HD, it's supposed to be pretty spectacular.

The first three episodes of 11 aired this past Sunday night, though I understand they will be replayed during the week. Tape them, and if you have TiVO, get a season pass.

One thing that becomes clear in episode 1 ("Pole to Pole") is the importance the sun plays in life on earth, and how the warmer the region, the more diverse and plentiful the life. It kind of puts a lie to the whole notion that global warming will only result in death and tragedy for the planet.

Watch it - it's really good.
