John McCain fans might find some solace in this piece from Michael Portillo in the Sunday Times (London). He gives a lengthy profile of McCain, and explains why McCain may still be a force to be reckoned with in '08. The theme of the piece is basically that McCain hopes to ride out the current polling problems in hopes that the voters will become more knowledgable about Rudy Giuliani and won't like him anymore. I think that's a risky strategy, mainly because so far voters haven't demonstrated that knowledge of Rudy's positions on certain social issues has much affect on their affection for Hizzoner (as evidenced by this piece in today's Washington Post).
The article is McCain, warts and all, and will give you some background on the senator's life and experiences.
