Mitt and Al

There's a disturbance in the blogosphere force today over the issue of Rev. Al Sharpton implying in a debate that Mormons don't believe in the "real" God. I'll save the theology for another time. If you want to read about the whole kerfuffle Hugh Hewitt has a series of pieces on it:
Part 1
Part 2
Part 3
Part 4
Part 5

Keep in mind, Hugh wrote a book about Romney, so he may be a little more sensitive to Mitt-bashing than others. However, it certainly does look like Sharpton has fallen into a bigotry trap not terribly unlike that which he used to destroy Don Imus.

I, personally, refuse to get upset by anything Sharpton says because he simply doesn't merit any respect. To give his statements about Romney any weight implies that he has some credibility, which is something he doesn't have on any issue, let alone the religious faith or lack thereof of Romney. Sharpton is a clown who feeds on this kind of controversy, and I'm not interested in feeding the clown.

While we're on the subject of Romney, you can add this to the headlines regarding GOP candidates and abortion that I posted the other day:
Romney's Wife Gave Money to Planned Parenthood

Romney was pro-choice at the time (1994) that this contribution took place, but that probably won't stop anybody from piling on.
