Tornadoes and the National Guard

In this previous post I mentioned how the Kansas governor and other Democrats such as Barack Obama and Harry Reid are trying to bash Bush on the issue of National Guard response to the Kansas tornado. One Kansas eyewitness wrote to The Corner about the night the storm hit, and his own account of seeing the National Guard troops and trucks on the road:
A point of order on KS tornado:

Gov. Kathleen Sebelius (not a native Kansan, BTW) was on CNN discussing the shortage of National Guard equipment for assisting the tornado victims and cleanup of Greensburg KS. I live 40 miles east of Greensburg. My family traveled east on Friday morning to visit family; this was the day of the tornado. En route we encountered over 50 National Guard humvees traveling in the same direction ( i.e., away from Greensburg) on Interstate 70. They were no doubt headed for their weekend maneuvers, presumably at or near Fort Riley KS.

So the point is, there is plenty of equipment in Kansas. By a fate of bad timing, they all happened to be about four hours away. I'm sure they are there by now.

I am sickened by the fact that my governor (and the likes of Obama) are using this terrible disaster in some political endgame to bash the Bush Administration.
Gov. Sebelius and her staff have been frantically backpeddling on her statements and have been trying to imply that what she REALLY meant was that if there was ANOTHER tornado they'd be hard-pressed to respond.

Folks, that's not what she said nor what she meant when she said it. The word went out from the Dems to use the tornado as an anti-Iraq war talking point, and like the good but not-too-bright little Dem she is, she followed along.

Once again, in the image of Kathleen Blanco in Louisiana, is this another female Dem governor who can't handle the pressure of a major national disaster?

For much more information on how Kansas responds to disasters, and how the governor sought to make some political hay out of this mess, read Denis Boyles piece at National Review.
