Big Chief Running Mouth Fired by University of Colorado

Ward Churchill, a former professor at the University of Colorado, has been fired for a whole collection of misdeeds:
BOULDER – The University of Colorado Board of Regents voted to fire Ward Churchill on Tuesday evening, prompting the promise of a lawsuit from the embattled professor.

The Board of Regents passed a motion to accept the recommendation from CU President Hank Brown to fire Churchill from his position in the Ethnic Studies department.

The measure passed with an 8 to 1 vote. The vote was made just after 5:30 p.m. and Cindy Carlisle was the dissenting vote. The move came after academic committees found in 2006 that Churchill was guilty of academic misconduct, including plagiarism....

Churchill and his supporters then participated in a Native American ceremony outside of the building....

When Churchill arrived for the vote, he was carrying two very long poles, which are a Native American symbol. People with Churchill also brought drums.

About 20 Churchill supporters gathered outside of the building where the meeting took place. Among them was Russell Means, a Native American activist and actor.

I find the Indian symbolism really funny, because according to this Front Page Magazine article from 2005, it's highly doubtful that Churchill was Indian at all. He played the part pretty well, but when researchers looked into his family history, he was found to be all talk and no wampum. The article also has a more complete background on Churchill's many outrages that embarrassed the University and eventually led to the investigation and his firing.

Sadly, there are way too many guys like this teaching the young, impressionable minds of our college kids.
