Just 14 percent of Americans have a great deal or quite a lot of confidence in Congress, marking an all-time low, and the lowest of any of the 16 institutions tested in this year's Gallop's Confidence in Institutions survey.
Ranking among such disregarded entities as HMOs, Congress is at its lowest ebb since Gallup began tracking congressional approval ratings in 1973, according to the poll released Thursday.
The previous low point for Congress was 18 percent, a dip reached at several points from 1991 to 1994.
Pretty soon the only ones approving of Congress will be the members immediate families and maybe their pets.
