Gorby Slams the U.S. "Empire"

Former Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev has some critical words for America:

MOSCOW. July 27 (Interfax) - Former USSR President Mikhail
Gorbachev has said that the complicated situation in the world is largely due to the position of the United States, which suffers from "winner complex."

"The U.S. is always anxious to win. The fact that they suffer from this disorder, the winner complex, is the main reason why things are so complicated in the world," Gorbachev said at a press conference at Interfax on Friday.

Gorby clearly suffers from "losers complex" since the fall of the Soviet Union coincided with his own fall from power. However, his criticism seems to fall a little short when you hear this little story:

Last year we visited San Francisco following the tour of my daughter's college and we took one of those bus tours to get a better picture of the town. During the tour, as we were headed up to the Golden Gate Bridge, we passed through the Presidio in an area right on the water that was at one time an airfield. Sitting right next to the bay, with a breathtaking view of the bridge and the passing parade of ships, was a beautiful home standing by itself. Our guide told us the home was owned by none other than Mikhail Gorbachev. He may decry our "winner complex", but that doesn't stop him from owning a spectacular piece of real estate here.

He's welcome to leave anytime he wants.
