I haven't found a link to this story yet, but I just heard on KFI radio this morning that the city of Santa Barbara has approved a plan to draw a wavy line on 68 city streets 7 meters (23 feet) above the current sea level. Why? So that the greenie citizens of that town can see where the new shoreline will be after global warming melts all the glaciers in Greenland. I guess the fact that many of Greenland's glaciers are actually growing doesn't fit into their calculations. Not to mention the fact that recent research has shown that even during periods when the earth was much warmer than it is now the glaciers didn't melt.
The question on the radio this morning was what this new wavy line would do to property values. My prediction...nothing. A few greenies might be scared away by the thought that their homes could be under the surf break, but most people who don't spend their lives surrendering to irrational fears will still be willing to buy below the wavy line.
A local citizens taxpayer group is already threatening to sue over the potential damage to property values, and that may stop the plan altogether, but meanwhile the greenies will cower and quiver as the waters rise around them.
