The Politicians Respond to Barry Bonds

These two headlines from Drudge:
Pelosi Toasts Bonds And His 'Rightful Place Among Sport's Immortals'...

NO CALL FROM BUSH...

No surprise on Pelosi's part. She represents San Francisco and if she didn't make a statement in support, it would hurt her politically. And besides, when have Democrats ever worried about playing within the rules.

I'm more fascinated by the president's response. He's a big baseball fan and used to be part owner of the Texas Rangers. The fact that Bush didn't call tells me he's not that happy about Bonds getting the record in the way he seems to have done it, and doesn't want to praise Bonds for what may turn out to be a drug-tainted performance. Ithink Bush is more of a baseball purist.

The White House did extend congratulations in the form of a statement from Tony Snow, but I think the lack of a phone call from the president speaks pretty volumes. I wonder how long until somebody makes a claim of racism regarding the lack of a call from the president?

UPDATE: Bush makes the call.
