The White House could announce as early as Wednesday its nominee to replace Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, and former U.S. Solicitor General Theodore Olson has emerged as a leading candidate—despite initial concerns in the administration that he could face a tough confirmation hearing, according to sources close to the process. It's almost too bad that the president doesn't make the appointment today. In case you're not aware, Ted's wife, Barbara Olson, was on American flight 77 when it crashed into the Pentagon six years ago this morning.
Nominating Olson could be another example of waving a red flag at a bull as far as the Senate Democrats are concerned. Most of them and their lefty supporters are still in great pain over the 2000 election and Olson represented Bush/Cheney before the Supreme Court during the many Bush v. Gore hearings. You just know they're going to get pressure to filibuster his nomination and the lefty websites will go absolutely nuts.
Olson would be an excellent Attorney General, and if the Dems are so desperately interested in fixing the problems at the Justice Department, he's just the guy for the job.
