Another Multi-Truck Collision in L.A. County

Trucks are having a hard time getting through L. A. County these days, and this afternoon a blinding sandstorm near Lancaster resulted in another fatal multiple vehicle collision:
At least two people were killed and more were injured, authorities said. Two of the hurt were in critical condition after the crash that left vehicles scattered across Highway 14, Los Angeles County Fire Inspector Ron Haralson said.

Eight vehicles and four big rigs were involved in the pileup, fire officials said.

Original reports said five people were also treated for minor injuries. The Associated Press reported injury totals as high as 16.

The pileup was reported around 1:40 p.m. during a sandstorm whipped by winds gusting up to 55 mph, the National Weather Service said. A dust storm warning was scheduled to be in effect in the area until 7 p.m. and a wind advisory will remain in effect until 3 a.m. Wednesday.
A lot of people trying to get back to the Antelope Valley from jobs in the Los Angeles basin are in for a long afternoon and evening.
