What comes home from college must go back to college. I think that's one of those laws of physics like bodies in motion tend to stay in motion. A week ago Saturday I drove a 938 mile round trip to pick up my daughter in Northern California and bring her home for Thanksgiving week. It's been great and we've loved having her at home, but all good things must come to an end. Today, I've got to take her back, so I'm off to another 1,000 mile jaunt.
I'm ready, though. I have a giant box of Jujyfruits to give me a sugar rush for the long trip back home and an iPod full of Christmas music (including the new Mannheim Steamroller Christmas CD which you can order here for only $8.99). Mannheim Steamroller CDs are the official sounds of Christmas in the HolyCoast household, and we have driven many a mile to family gatherings listening to their Christmas music. If you haven't got your own collection of their Christmas works, here you go: Fresh Aire Christmas, Mannheim Steamroller Christmas Celebration, Christmas, Christmas Extraordinaire, Christmas in the Aire, Mannheim Steamroller - Christmas Live. They're all good.
If there's a song that best exemplifies the Mannheim Steamroller Christmas sound it's their version of Silent Night. Nobody does it better. You can't hear it without being struck by the sacredness and mystery of that magical night. Another personal favorite is their version of O Come O Come Emanuel.
See you when I get back (which will be just in time to get ready for next week's trip back up there for the daughter's Christmas concert).
We're big fans of our kids.
