Hillary's Developing Strategy to Win Ugly

The Times Online (London) offers some information on the Clinton campaign's developing strategy to win regardless of cost and the effect on the Democratic party:
Clinton’s camp has been circulating stories criticising the “cult” of Obama in the hope of portraying “Obamania” as a mass delusion. Media Matters, a watchdog organisation sympathetic to Clinton, compiled a report headlined, “Media figures call Obama supporters’ behaviour ‘creepy’, compare them to Hare Krishna and Charles Manson followers”.

It was forwarded by Sidney Blumenthal, a top Clinton adviser, to select reporters. The campaign entered a nasty phase last week with the determination of Clinton’s team to revive delegates from the “ghost” primaries of Michigan and Florida, by legal action if necessary.

The two states broke party rules by bringing forward their contests to January and were stripped of their delegates by the Democratic National Committee. The candidates did not formally compete in either state but Clinton won both handsomely.

“Two million people voted and their votes are going to count,” said Doug Hattaway, a Clinton spokesman.

They were not ruling out legal action. Even some Clinton supporters are aghast at the prospect that she might try to “steal” the election in this way. Obama leads by 1,301 delegates to 1,235, according to RealClearPolitics. Clinton will need the support of superdelegates to close the gap, unless she wins by margins of 20-30% in the large states of8 Texas and Ohio on March 4 and Pennsylvania on April 22.

Granted, people have been fainting regularly at Obama events and his reaction to these faintings seems to follow a predictable pattern. Michael Medved is convinced it's all fake, but I would have my doubts. If it happened all the time, like Hillary's cackle when she gets a tough question, I would be more willing to assume it's a campaign tactic and not just a case of overheated supporters.

As far as Florida and Michigan goes, two million people went to the polls knowing that under Dem rules their votes were not going to count. This should not be a surprise to anyone, and nobody has been disenfranchised who didn't already know it was going to happen. If people want their votes to count, they should become Republican.

Speaking of voter irregularities, how about the hundreds of NY City voters who cast ballots for Obama on Feb. 5th but none were counted:
February 16, 2008 -- Barack Obama's primary-night results were strikingly under recorded in several congressional districts around the city - in some cases leaving him with zero votes when, in fact, he had pulled in hundreds, the Board of Elections said today

Unofficial primary results gave Obama no votes in nearly 80 districts, including Harlem's 94th and other historically black areas - but many of those initial tallies proved to be wildly off the mark, the Board of Elections confirmed.

Truth is, in some districts getting a recount, the senator from Illinois is even close to defeating Hillary Clinton.

This won't change the state's outcome, but it could close up the race and actually give Obama another delegate or two. Read the rest of the article to see just how strange the reported numbers were.
