LAKE FOREST – A 42-year-old man was killed Wednesday when he lost control of his Honda on Lake Forest Drive and slammed into a tree, ripping the car in half from front to back. The man died on impact, authorities said.No kidding. My money's on drugs or alcohol as well.
Daniel Huss was driving west on Lake Forest Drive when he lost control of the silver Honda near Toledo Way about 2:30 p.m., veering into oncoming lanes, said Lt. Hal Brotheim of the Orange County Sheriff's Department. Huss swerved back toward the westbound lanes without hitting other cars, but slammed into a tree in the median. The tree bisected the Civic.
Firefighters from the Orange County Fire Authority had to cut through the Civic several times to get to Huss, Brotheim said.
No one else was injured in the single-car wreck.
Speed played a role in the crash, Brotheim said.
In another auto crash story, the folks that build Saturns ought to take notice of this one:
Minutes later, the fleeing driver lost control of the BMW, sending it crashing into a Saturn Ion near state Route 78 in the Oceanside area. That's a pretty impressive performance by the Saturn.
The BMW hit the Saturn at more than 100 mph, destroying it. Its driver, Dawn Ireland, 39, of San Diego, had complaints of pain and was taken to a hospital, but did not appear to be seriously hurt.
